Ukrainian Hydrogen Stakeholders Join H2-diplo Study Tour in Germany

The Ukrainian Hydrogen Council is pleased to see Ukrainian hydrogen stakeholders actively participating in the H2-diplo – Decarbonization Diplomacy study tour in Germany dedicated to hydrogen, Power-to-X solutions, and decarbonized industrial value chains.
We are especially proud that our members and partners - Hydrogen Ukraine, UDP Renewables, Eco-Optima, the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and King Danylo University - are among the participants of this important initiative.
The study tour offers a practical look at how Germany is developing hydrogen ecosystems and integrating them into industrial and energy strategies. One of the first key visits was to the Siemens Energy facility in Berlin, where participants explored large-scale electrolyzer manufacturing and hydrogen-ready power generation technologies.
Particular attention was given to the scalability of electrolyzer production capacities and the role of hydrogen-compatible turbines that are already capable of operating with hydrogen blending today, with plans for full hydrogen operation in the future. These technologies demonstrate how renewable electricity, hydrogen production, storage, and flexible power generation can be integrated into one resilient energy system.
For Ukraine, such solutions are especially relevant in the context of rebuilding damaged infrastructure, balancing renewable energy generation, strengthening energy security, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
The programme also included discussions with representatives of the German Federal Foreign Office, where participants exchanged views on the future of Ukrainian-German cooperation in the hydrogen sector, energy transition priorities, and the role of hydrogen in broader European decarbonization efforts.
An important value of the study tour lies not only in the technologies presented, but also in understanding how industrial partnerships, policy frameworks, infrastructure planning, and international cooperation are developed in practice.
The upcoming programme includes visits focused on green ammonia, industrial hydrogen applications, ammonia cracking technologies, hydrogen innovation initiatives, and Bavarian hydrogen ecosystem development — providing Ukrainian participants with further insight into the full hydrogen value chain.
We thank H2-diplo – Decarbonization Diplomacy, GIZ, and all partners for organizing this important initiative and creating a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and future cooperation between Ukrainian and German stakeholders.
