The Ukrainian Hydrogen Council met with the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany

On January 17, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock made her first visit to Ukraine after her appointment.

One of the main topics of the talks was hydrogen energy.

Annalena Baerbock stated, that Germany soon will open an office for hydrogen diplomacy in Ukraine to implement relevant projects.

In order to strengthen the German-Ukrainian dialogue and cooperation on hydrogen, Annalena Baerbock met with representatives of the Energy Association “Ukrainian Hydrogen Council”. Representatives of the public sector, business, Secretariat of the German-Ukrainian Energy Partnership, Naftogaz Group also participated in the meeting.

The key topics of discussion were:

  • the state of development of the Hydrogen Strategy of Ukraine,
  • activities within the framework of the German-Ukrainian Energy Partnership,
  • hydrogen research and initiatives,
  • hydrogen projects in Ukraine.

"I hope that this meeting will strengthen and accelerate the development of hydrogen and renewable technologies in our countries," said President of the Energy Association "Ukrainian Hydrogen Council" Oleksandr Riepkin.

It will be recalled that the German Federal Government adopted the National Hydrogen Strategy in June 2020. Germany has thus reaffirmed the importance of "green" hydrogen in achieving climate protection goals. The German government sees hydrogen technology as the key to the country's clean energy future and is investing billions of euros in the sector.
