Green hydrogen is the key to achieving the goals of the European Green Deal

Yesterday the 5th Specialized International Zaporizhzhia Ecological Forum "Eco Forum - 2021" started. The theme of this year's event was the implementation of local initiatives in the context of the European Green Deal.

President of the Energy Association “Ukrainian Hydrogen Council” Oleksandr Riepkin took part in the plenary part "European Green Deal: Opportunities and Implications for Ukraine" and told the participants what role green hydrogen plays in achieving the goals of the European Green Deal.

The European Green Deal combines the twin effort of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and preparing Europe’s industry for a climate-neutral economy. Within this framework, hydrogen has been singled out as central for addressing both issues and for evolving energy systems.

That is why the EU Hydrogen Strategy, which prioritizes the promotion of renewable hydrogen, is an integral part of the European Green Deal.

“Hydrogen is a key element in the process of decarbonization and energy transition”, stressed Oleksandr Riepkin.

Green hydrogen has a wide range of applications - in the energy, transport, industrial sectors. Most importantly it is a clean source of energy that does not pollute the environment.

The development of hydrogen technologies for Ukraine is energy independence and security, an influx of investment, new jobs and an improvement in the environmental situation.

“This is an opportunity for us to create an economic miracle and become the next Dubai, because the technologies that are currently being developed in the EU are completely available to us. And most importantly, we have a resource that we can turn from a reliable partnership into a billion-dollar investment”, summed up Oleksandr Riepkin.
